More Local Kinder Upgrades

11th October 2018

Kinder UpgradeLabor has announced nearly $300,000 in major upgrades for Yarra Glen Pre School and Yarra Junction’s Cire Children’s Centre

Visiting the preschool today with Jaclyn Symes MP, Labor candidate for Eildon, Sally Brennan, said these upgrades were a vital development for the growing Yarra Valley area.

Yarra Glen Pre School will undergo a major $171,600 makeover providing easier access for students and visitors to its centre with new paths, garden beautification, and redevelopment of its foyer.

Cire Children’s Centre will use it’s funding of $99,260.05 to develop an inclusive sensory playground that enhances play opportunity for all of its students.

The Andrews Labor Government have announced 42 kinders will benefit from the latest round of the Inclusive Kindergartens Facilities Program.

The program helps kinders become more accessible and inclusive for kids of all abilities by upgrading their buildings or playgrounds or to buy things like adjustable desks and chairs, moveable wheelchair ramps and soft padding for outdoor areas.

So far, a total 258 grants worth $6.4 million have been distributed to dozens of Victorian kinders.

The Labor Government has invested a record $123.6 million to build, expand and improve early years infrastructure across Victoria to ensure local families can continue to access great local kindergartens.

It has led to an additional 8,250 kindergarten places for 3- and 4-year-olds, as well as hundreds of new and revamped early learning facilities and playgroups since 2014.

It builds on the Government’s landmark $202.1 million Education State Early Childhood Reform Plan, which recognises the importance of giving families support in early childhood so kids are ready for kinder, ready for school and ready for life.

Ms Brennan said “I’m so pleased the Andrews Labor Government is upgrading Yarra Glen Pre School and Cire Children’s Centre so that more local families can reap the benefits of early learning”.

“We want our littlest Victorians to get the support they need and enjoy world-class and welcoming environments, no matter where they go to kinder and I couldn’t be happier that it is happening in my backyard of the Yarra Valley.

“There will be a lot more kinder construction activity to come under a re-elected Andrews Labor Government as we implement our revolutionary plan to provide three-year-old kinder to all Victorian children.

“Building the Education State starts with early learning, which is why a re-elected Andrews Labor Government will invest almost $5 billion to give every Victorian child an extra year of kinder.”

This work builds on the Labor Government’s landmark $202.1 million Education State Early Childhood Reform Plan, which recognises the importance of giving families support in early childhood so kids are ready for kinder, ready for school and ready for life.
